So, I’m pretty plugged in. I love getting my daily dose of instagram, blogging (duh, doi) , tweeting, pinning -you name it.
I successfully ran social media accounts for a few businesses and have a personal account (see above) where I focus on plus size style, beauty, travel and some lifestyle stuff.
I don’t think there is anyone new to the world of social media – I mean, we all know what as hashtag is. But if there’s anyone who is new to the world of presentational social media ( as I like to call it – because it’s social media for an intended audience), I’ve got some cool resources for you!
This round of social media resources will all be video links! Easy! This is going to be an ongoing series so I’ll also be doing one about apps, podcasts and some other resources I’ve fallen in love with. Today the videos I’ve linked are going to focus on a couple of things, but mainly focusing on one singular topic: photography.
Visuals are such a huge part of social presence. How many times have you clicked on a link just because there was a super attractive thumbnail? (Me personally – all the time).
It can be super daunting to be just starting out a social presence without say, a DSLR or a working grasp of Photoshop.
Here are some links that I find SUPER helpful.
1. How I take Great iPhone Pics! Rachel Martino
With a community of almost 250k on instagram , a super cute blog and TWO Youtube channels (one in English and another in French) this multi-platform multi-hyphenate girl boss extraordinaire is the in-your-pocket business coach you’ve been looking for. What do I love about her? Despite all her success, she still makes time to be a resource for her following. On her insta-stories, she will frequently feature “behind-the-gram” posts dissecting the steps taken to create some of her more memorable insta pics. In this video, Rachel breaks down how to take great photos for your online platforms that’ll put you well on your way to going viral.
2. How I Edit my Instagram Pictures with my iPhone! – Rachel Martino
You didn’t think I’d give Rachel all that hype without linking at least two of her videos, did you? I think of these two as companion pieces, sisters even. Can’t watch one without the other. In the world of instagram, a photo is only as good as it’s edit.
3. A Drink with James – James Nord
James Nord is many things. Primarily he’s a badass business dude who found success on Tumblr with his photography, evolved to shooting fashion content for Oscar De La Renta and a co-founder of Fohr Card an agency dedicated to connecting businesses to influencers. Every week he hosts a Youtube show discussing trends in the influencer and social media space, drinks a glass of whiskey and sometimes wears a Stetson cowboy hat. James breaks things down in a digestible, raw way. He isn’t afraid of being blunt and dropping a few f-bombs. He definitely is another advocate for using the resources you have at your fingertips before spending a ton of money on equipment.
4. How To Build Your Own Home Studio – Maya Washington
Another multi-hyphenate badass, Maya Washington built her impressive list of accomplishments including an interview with Hilary Clinton, hosting gigs for BET , a traditional acting career, and 257k on instagram through self-promotion and a knack for tech. She takes a DIY approach to all of her social media and video content production and breaks things down in easy to digest tidbits in her Tech Talk series. From everything to how to film a beauty tutorial to creating a home photography studio – Maya knows the ins and outs of creating a marketable social presence.
So ends the first installment of my social media series! Stay tuned for more updates 🙂
xx Rosey
